Me, My Journey, and My Art
Artist Statement
As a contemporary acrylic painter, my artistic journey revolves around the intersection of our subconscious and conscious existence, as depicted through dreamscapes with surrealist undertones.
My work scrutinizes the interplay between memories, experiences, and imagination, exposing the vulnerability inherent in human emotions.
By leveraging a dynamic color palette and layered acrylic techniques, I strive to craft art that resonates with viewers on both visual and emotional levels, prompting reflections on emotions, dreams, and the complexities of human existence.
Entering Lilyworld
Present series exhibited in Nabholz Workshop of The Studio Downtown
In Lilyworld, I find solace in the surreal and the unknown. This dreamscape of vibrant colors and abstracted forms is my playground, where the boundaries of reality are gently stretched.
Through dance, reflections, and unexpected juxtapositions, I invite viewers to step into a world that’s both whimsical and thought provoking.
Lilyworld is a realm where the subconscious and the conscious blend, where the beauty of the unknown is revealed in the swirling patterns and textures of my art.
As I continue to explore this world, I’m drawn to the ways in which art can transcend time and touch the hearts of those who experience it.
Artist Biography
Stewart Lawrence is a professional artist who works in mixed media, charcoal, acrylic and oil paints. He is originally from Little Rock, Arkansas and is currently based out of his studio in Greenbrier, Arkansas.
Lawrence had an interest in art at an early age, and he was heavily influenced by Edgar Degas and Claude Monet. He attended The University of Arkansas at Little Rock, where he studied Art and Mathematics.
Lawrence joined the US Army after school and served in two different combat tours. After receiving a traumatic brain injury, he was retired from the service. The TBI caused great hardship including seizures and constant dizziness and being in a state of mental fog.
After much prayer by many people, his answer came in a still small voice that told Lawrence to start drawing again. Within hours his mental acuity had increased, and the dizziness had disappeared.
Lawrence has grown his art from a hobby to a professional practice which is also therapeutic for him.
Notably he blends realism with abstraction and often has a surrealist twist.

My commission work follows the same layered, intuitive process — built around emotion, story, and the in-between spaces that are harder to explain but easy to feel.
